We welcome applications from all interested individuals who are 14 years of age or older. Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older to volunteer at the Cafe and 19 years of age or older to volunteer with the Visiting Library Service or as an English Conversation Circle Facilitator.
All applicants should review the following steps carefully in order to have a good understanding of the application process from start to finish.
Step 1 - Review the opportunities listed below to see if you may be interested in volunteering with the Barrie Public Library.
Step 2 - To apply for a position, please fill out our online application
Step 3 - Carefully review the email that is sent to you once your application is received.
Step 4 - Ask two people who are not family or close friends to complete a Volunteer Applicant Reference Check for you. Hard copies of the reference check form can be picked up at either library if needed.
*If your references are not received within a 3 month period, your online profile will be deleted from our system*
Step 5 - When your references are received the Coordinator of Volunteer Resources will be in touch to schedule an in person interview. Please note, interviews are conducted at the Downtown Branch and last approximately 30 minutes.
Step 6 - Once the interview is complete and your profile, interests, skills and experiences are evaluated, the Coordinator of Volunteer Resources will determine if you would be a suitable candidate. If so, a letter will be given to you in order for you to complete your police check, if one is required for the position you are applying for.
Step 7 - Sign the volunteer waiver and complete the online AODA training. Both documents will be received at the interview if the candidate is successful.
Step 8 - Once your police check is complete and returned to you (if one is required), contact the Coordinator of Volunteer Resources to chat about your volunteer orientation and training.
